Tonies restocks and reselling

Tonies are audio figures for the Toniebox. The retail price is low, the audience is obvious, and individual figures are gone before most people have seen they were on sale. In autumn 2026 that means the Christmas figures.

The mistake is to treat a sell-out as a limited print run. Tonies get manufactured again. Ignore that and you pay a premium for stock that is back at retail a few weeks later.

What is on sale now

The 2026 Christmas Tonies, including figures such as “Milas Weihnachtsreise”, are listed at €16.99. Preorders in the manufacturer shop opened on 9 September, retail on 10 September. Within a few days almost nothing was left online. Further stock has been announced for October.

That is the whole position. Three days of sell-out, then a statement that production continues. The gap between those two sentences is the window. After it, a price of €40 and up is the expensive way in.

Why they disappear so fast

The price invites a casual purchase. €17 is a gift, not an appliance. Licences and seasons bunch demand into a few days: Christmas, a new character, a figure that shows up in every parents’ group at once.

The big webshops are the loudest channel and therefore the first to empty. Bookshops, drugstores, toy retailers and physical shelves get their own allocations and a smaller audience. After the homepage sells out, retail price is often still on a shelf, not on the page everyone is refreshing.

What is left of the margin

A €17 figure sold at €35 looks like a double. Marketplace fees, payment fees and shipping sit on the sale price, and on a number this small they take most of the difference. Shipping a single figure can use up the spread on its own.

Several figures at retail carry more than one figure that already cost €40 to buy. The cheap purchase is the whole strategy. There is no second lever that rescues an expensive one.

Compared with sealed Pokémon product this is a different business. An Elite Trainer Box can sit for months and gain collectors while it does. 30th Celebration is that kind of case. A Tonie loses its premium the moment the restock arrives, and with this brand the restock is the normal outcome.

How to judge a figure

Will it be made again? If the product page says more units are coming, the premium is borrowed. The 2026 Christmas figures are that case.

Who buys it in December? Parents who need a gift will pay a premium. Collectors who leave a figure sealed on a shelf are the smaller group here. Demand has a date, and the date is Christmas.

What does selling actually cost? Take fees and shipping off the sale price before you buy. At a €17 cost price, shipping is often what decides whether anything is left.

The expensive moment

The expensive moment is the day after the online sell-out, when marketplaces ask double or triple and the October restock is already announced. Buying there pays for a gap of a few weeks.

Buying at retail in a shop, from a quieter retailer or on the replenishment wave is the buy that leaves a spread.
